abstract="I recently published a letter entitled &quot;Has the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic suppressed the increase in suicide rates in population outflow areas?&quot; In this letter, I suggested that restraints on population migration were involved in the decreased suicide rate recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic (Fushimi, 2023). The data presented at that time were derived from a comparative study between Akita Prefecture, which has been experiencing remarkable depopulation, and the capital, Tokyo (Fushimi, 2023).
