abstract="The various types of contusion injuries of the eyeball and their pathogenetic mechanisms are described. Attention is particularly directed to peripheral retinal lesions, which are more commonly observed in football (soccer) players, and the proper conduct of sports physicians in cases of this kind is explained. It is felt that there is no objection to the resumption of sport even at an early stage, provided frequent checks are carried out for the prompt detection of lesions that could progress to retinal detachment. <p>Language: en</p>",
