abstract="The authors examine data of 1712 injured skiers treated at the Centro Traumatologico of Sansicario in its first 10 activity seasons (1974-75 to 1983-84), comparing the variations happened in the injuries distribution with those from some other previous statistics. The most evident variation is the reduction of ankle injuries and leg fractures, especially in adults, and the increase of all kind of trunk and upper limb injuries. Between these the greater increase concerns the metacarpophalangeal of the thumb. Some of these new aspects of the ski traumatology are the speed rise and the insufficient snow-capping. The ameliorated track conditions, the skiers' increased technical knowledge and more efficient equipments allow higher speed. The insufficient snow-capping prevent the particular attributes of injuries due to the skiing, and is co-responsible in most of the trunk and upper limb injuries. <p>Language: en</p>",
