abstract="The safety of high gravity dams with consideration of hydraulic fracturing under high water pressure was studied. A model test for simulating the hydraulic fracturing of concrete with different ages was carried out. Based on the results of the experiment, a numerical analysis by means of FEM was implemented. The study results of Grand Dixence gravity dam (H = 285 m) and a given gravity dam (H = 216.5 m) show that it is reasonably to consider the hydraulic fracturing influence in design specification for gravity dam higher than 200 m.<p />",
