abstract="School Crossing Patrol Wardens (SCPWs) are employed by Local Authorities to assist the safe passage of children across busy highways. It is commonly believed by members of the public - and, in particular, parents - that Local Authorities have a statutory duty to provide SCPWs. It is also believed by some that these wardens operate at great risk and that there are significant cases of industrial injury involved in carrying out their duties. This paper examines these issues and presents some data concerning industrial injuries and compares other forms of crossing facility with those provided by the warden.<p />",
