abstract="This paper presents a series of design curves for deducing average delays, which have been computed using the theory of A. G. Hawkes. The usefulness and accuracy of the theory is assessed by comparing its results with those deduced using a computer simulation model of traffic flows at a junction with the necessary restraints. Practical measurements of average delays have been carried out, and these are compared with those calculated by the analytical method using the measured traffic flow parameters.<p />",
