abstract="Road humps are a proven way of maintaining low speeds, particularly in residential areas. All humps constructed before the current Department of Transport (DOT) Regulations have a circular profile, whereas humps constructed after 1990 have flat tops, with ramps leading onto and off the plateaux. This paper discusses the various types of vehicles which may encounter problems and then gives advice as to the way in which the problems might be minimized without unduly compromising the speed-reducing effect of the hump. It is stressed that a theoretical approach has been adopted for this study, and actual conditions may require the advice to be modified.   <p>Language: en</p>",
