abstract="There are a variety of ways in which drivers can receive information and guidance. These include road signs, radio transmissions, in-vehicle systems and route planning facilities. The information obtained from these sources can be used by drivers to improve their route choice, bring forward or postpone the start of their trip, change their choice of destination, and/or change mode. The extent of the need for in-vehicle and external information and guidance, the systems required to provide these information, and the potential types and levels of benefits are examined. The sources and development of databases, modeling tools for systems design and evaluation, and the potential for incident avoidance strategies are also explored. <p>Language: en</p>",
