abstract="Three trials of amber arrows have taken place in the UK over the last decade. The first two trials were of fixed amber arrows and although the results were encouraging doubts were raised that the fixed amber arrow might not be as conspicuous as the normal amber roundel with motorists crossing the stop line through the closing amber and red period. This problem has been addressed by the development, by Microsense Systems Ltd, of an Intelligent Amber Arrow (IAA) which opens as a fixed amber arrow at the start of the signal sequence and closes as a normal amber roundel at the end of the sequence. This paper provides an update on the trial of the Intelligent Amber Arrow.<p />",
