TO THE EDITOR: As a longtime advocate for the reduction of gun violence in Chicago and now New Mexico, I was pleased to read ACP's enhanced position paper (1) on the topic. In view of the recent exacerbation of gun violence and the increasing public interest in reducing its toll, I would like to suggest several strategies that ACP leadership and the Health and Public Policy Committee may consider adding. It is time to recommend mandatory registration of handguns (which are involved in virtually all homicides and suicides) and semiautomatic rifles (the weapon of choice for mass shootings)....
