abstract="Although studded tires are now illegal for minnesota residents, except for nonresidents who are given 30 days to drive with studded tires; they were legal for 6 winters from 1965 to 1971. This is a report on a number of sudies that had not been completed by january 1971; how highway surface wear continued to progress through the winter of 1970-71 is shown. The advantages and disadvantages of using studded tires are reviewed in terms of pavement wear and traffic safety.
