abstract="OBJECTIVE To understand the epidemiological characteristics of suicide and suicide attempts in Kunming city in2013,so as to provide the basis for suicide intervention. <br><br>METHODS The death data of residents were collected from Kunming residents death reporting system in 2013,and the self-designed questionnaire was used to collect the required data.<br><br>RESULTS There were significant differences in gender and age among the 516 suicide deaths(P <0.05);Family disputes(43.80%),illness problems(29.84%)and financial difficulties(10.08%)were the main causes of suicide;The modes of suicide were dominated by pesticides,knives and ropes;There were 50 suicide attempts among the 516 suicide deaths,those who had suicide attempts 1-4 times or more,accounted for 5.04%,2.52%,1.16%and 0.97%respectively;The last attempt to commit suicide was made mainly in the forms of pesticides,knives,and ropes. <br><br>CONCLUSION The mortality rate of male suicide is higher than that of female,Suicide deaths are concentrated in residents over 40 years old.9.69% of the residents have history of suicide.Family disputes,diseases and financial difficulties are the main causes of suicide.
