abstract="In this article, the methodology of investigation of serial murders in Ukraine and in the world is studied. The major problems in investigation of serial murders in Ukraine, which in our opinion, affect effectiveness and results of investigation of serial murders in each criminal proceeding, are outlined, namely: crime scene examination; - "manual" integration of criminal proceedings; - ineffective planning of work on investigation of serial murders; - disclosure of pretrial investigation data to mass media and other persons. Analysis of the outlined by us problems demonstrates that investigation of serial murders is carried out in an inefficient way and extremely openly. Moreover, we believe that use and application of the world practice would be appropriate. Hence, several proposals of the world practice of investigation of serial murders using leading-edge computer technologies were brought up in order to improve the methodology of investigation of serial murders in Ukraine, namely: - methods of criminal profiling: "psychological profile"; "geographic profile"; analytical systems of geographic profile "RIGEL Analyst", "Dragnet", "Crime stat", "CGT"; - "Gemini" software. We have set forward our own proposals to improve the effectiveness of investigation of serial murders in Ukraine, namely: the creation of separate serial murder investigation departments joining specially trained specialists in the investigation of serial murders, who would have in "their subordination" own "new-generation" expert institutions and proposed above automated systems. Implementation of at least some of the proposals set forth in the article will allow raising the effectiveness of investigation of serial murders in Ukraine up to the world level.
