abstract="PURPOSE: To analyze the scientific production about the accident with burns, aimed at improving family health care of children. <br><br>METHODS: systematic review of the literature in VHL database using the key words: Accidents, Burn, Child and search for secondary data in the Health Ministry Manuals were applied the inclusion criteria: full text available and in portuguese. We selected five articles published between 2002 and 2010. <br><br>RESULTS: Burns are injuries resulting from heat, radiation, chemicals or certain animals and plants. Fire is the main agent, although the electricity is more serious, resulting in functional and anatomical loss of body segments. Ocular chemical burns occurred mostly in accidentally homes. During post-occurrence of burns hospital, bandages, pain, mutilation and other consequences were motives of suffering, aggravated by being away from the family and social environment. Few showed dissatisfaction with the service. As a cause, the inattention of parents has been more frequent than cases of domestic violence, placing children at increased risk for accidents. The manuals are important in guiding people to actions of health professionals update and service organization for more efficient assistance. <br><br>CONCLUSION: There are few accidents that bring such serious consequences as burns, but they can be prevented by the vigilance of parents and guardians. Children are constantly on the move and need to be monitored. These precautions are essential for the prevention of burns and its complications.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>",
