abstract="Making mobility environmentally compatible is one of the key challenges in achieving sustainable consumption. Cars will continue to play a central role in this debate. The article examines the effects of buying an environment-friendlier car. Model segment-specific cost and environmental impact comparisons are drawn between the best-selling and the environment-friendliest cars. Two methods are presented which yield different assessments of the &quot;equivalence&quot; of the models being compared. The weighting pattern of the consumer price index is used to transfer the cost comparisons to the average expenditure structure.
