abstract="The impact of advanced driver trainings on reducing the crash risk of novice drivers is being discussed among national as well as international experts. Moreover, recent political considerations to enhance the quality of driver education through mandatory advanced driver trainings have put new life into the discussion of efficacy issues. In order to substantiate this discussion with scientific arguments, this article summarizes the results of international research on the range and the benefit of possible training interventions. The results seem to support training concepts which focus on experiencing uncontrollable states of driving and on teaching precautious driving techniques to avoid such states. On the contrary, concepts which concentrate solely an mastering the vehicle in dangerous situations rather seem to augment the individual crash risk. lt has to be noted, though, that studies apparently verifying positive outcomes of advanced driver trainings often show methodological flaws which reduce the external validity of their results. More research is therefore needed to develop reliable evaluation methods and to derive convincing arguments for either the recommendation or the rejection of mandatory advanced driver trainings as additional elements in German driver education. The article is based on a scientific enquiry promoted by the automobile distributor BMW.<p /> <p>Language: de</p>",
