abstract="The authors discuss the process and problems of recruiting subjects for a study of violent behavior experienced by otherwise normal adults. In a recent study, intensive recruitment efforts generated 443 self-referrals that resulted in the entry of ten percent of the inquirers. Descriptive clinical and demographic profiles of applicants are presented with emphasis on factors associated with noninclusion. Possible explanations for low admission rates are explored. The authors offer three specific recommendations which should help other investigators to recruit suitable subjects for clinical aggression research.<p />",
