abstract="Traffic control conditions on reading road are described prior to 1952, and the complete remodeling and modernization of the traffic signal system which took place in the winter of 1952-1953. Statistical studies are described of speed-and-delay (or traffic-flow) characteristics, and vehicle operating characteristics. The changes are described which took place in terms of traffic volume, capacity, accident records, delays and operating speeds. <br><br>RESULTS show that revisions in traffic control has raised the practical capacity at three critical intersections by an average of 13% and that traffic volumes on the road had increased, by 1954, between 10 and 15%. The studies also show that, despite the increase in traffic volume, the average trip during the 1954 studies consumed about 7.5% less time than during the 1952 studies and the accident record showed a 21% decrease at signalized intersections. Savings have accrued to motorists using the road in time saved, in lower vehicle operating cost, and in reduced accident cost.<p />",
