abstract="An apparatus is described for measuring the forces exerted at a point on a road surface by the wheels of moving vehicles. Detailed results are presented of measurements of three force components:Vertical force, and longitudinal and transverse horizontal force components. The investigation included a study of the influence on these forces of tire inflation pressure, speed, acceleration, wheel load, height of measuring stud above road surface, etc. Seven different vehicles were used covering a range of wheel (tire) load from 135 kg to 2,540 kg (300 lb to 5,600 lb), and a speed range of 15 kph to 75 kph (6 mph to 47 mph).<p />",
