abstract="The effects of tread design, carcass construction and tire size, tread composition, and of load, inflation, and speed on skidding are analyzed. It is concluded that total tire design must effect a compromise of control, stability, comfort, noise, skid resistance, and tread wear characteristics meeting the majority of driving requirements. A standard skid test tire is recommended to develop and correlate road surface friction measurements.<p />",
