abstract="Definitions proposed by the U.S. National Committee on Colors of Signal Lights call for a reversal in separations between colors. Three different shades of red presently confront motorists on highways. The railroad crossing red signal falls approximately midway between the others in redness and is proposed for adoptions for all highway applications. Adoption of the railroad crossing red for highway traffic control purposes will create a better alignment in transmittances with little sacrifice in identity.
