abstract="Detailed experience in the use of the Alcohol Level Evaluation Roadside Tester (ALERT) in Alberta is examined. Data are presented to show the change in type and frequency of alcohol-related driving charges in areas where the ALERT is in use. Evidence is offered to show that the use of roadside screening devices can assist the police to detect impaired drivers at lower blood alcohol concentrations than previously encountered.<p />",
