abstract="The Adolescent Transitions Project is described as a middle-school prevention program designed to work with parents to reduce problem behavior in high-risk teens. The project includes both parent- and teen-based curricula that focus on precursors to problem behavior including communication, limit setting, problem solving, goal setting, and dealing with negative peer influences. The Parent and Teen components have been proven effective in engaging both parents and teens, teaching the targeted skills, and reducing parent-child conflict. In addition, the Parent Focus curriculum has a short-term effect on reducing teen problem behavior in school. Implications for additional interventions and the need to continue to address schools as a context for emerging problem behaviors are discussed.
