abstract="The article discusses the French government support for the introduction of CCTV as a major means of crime prevention, while at the same time cutting back on funding for the police. The article argues that there is considerable evidence to suggest that this policy will be ineffective in limiting crime. Furthermore, the way in which the French government provides financial support for CCTV means that only the more affluent municipalities will be able to afford the introduction of CCTV and maintain their current crime prevention programmes. Keywords: France; CCTV; crime prevention policies<p />",
