abstract="Strong wave-driven currents occur over reefs when the reef is: (i) narrow; (ii) detached from the shoreline; (iii) fully submerged; and (iv) smooth with low frictional resistance. Artificial surfing reefs exhibit many of these characteristics so that wave-driven currents may adversely affect surfing conditions. Numerical solutions are validated using a 1-dimensional analytic solution and then tested against measurements made across the reef flat at John Brewer Reef on Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Wave-driven flows predicted over the more complex Narrowneck Reef on Australia's Gold Coast are discussed.<p />",
