abstract="Based on cognitive psychology, a type of driver's cognition framework which combines intuition, analysis, and inference is proposed, and the drivers' cognition behavior in the process of car-following was analyzed under the framework. Based on data collected by the 5-wheel system, 4 factors (velocity, acceleration, displacement of the front vehicle, displacement of the following vehicle) were determined by using factor analysis. Additionally, the cognition process of drivers was divided into 4 phases and a cognition structure model for drivers' car-following behavior is developed. Each phase was analyzed, and a car-following model was developed based on the drivers' cognition behavior by mathematical method. Simulation results show that the developed car-following model can properly reflect drivers' behavior in a car-following course.<p />",
