abstract="A recommendation issued by a special Food Drug Administration advisory panel, which requires warnings to patients about the safety of all antidepressant drugs used by children, is discussed. The recommendation followed two days of hearings where a majority of the panel was convinced that these antidepressants may increase suicidal behavior in pediatric patients. The panel voted 15 to 8 that all antidepressant drugs should carry a 'black box' warning, saying that the drugs may increase suicidal thoughts and behavior in children. Warnings should be applied to all antidepressants, including the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and the tricyclics.<p />",
