abstract="Pedersen and Wright (2002) examined the hypothesis proposed by Burt (1999) that verb use in event descriptions can influence an individuals estimate of event duration. This paper examines some of the reasoning proposed in the Pedersen and Wright paper, the methods they use and their results. It is concluded that their experiments failed to provide adequate conditions for the hypothesis to be tested and that further research is required to determine how the selection of words to describe an event might influence estimated event duration.
