abstract="The objective of this report is to share information on Domestic Violence (DV) issues in Egypt and to discuss the implications both on national level prevention policy and administration in higher education. In 2006, an interview session was held with 4 PhD level teaching staff of the Nursing Faculty of University of Cairo, where the Japanese government have previously contributed to strengthening nursing competence through ODA. The topic of the group interview was the examination of undergraduate nursing education in relation to health issues incurred by women as a result of DV and/or maltreatment in the community. Any DV policy / strategy set by the Egyptian government were discussed and an exchange of opinions on the awareness levels of nursing tutors and researchers in the faculty followed. It was subsequently agreed among the interview participants that nursing professionals have the capacity and play a role in enhancing students' awareness of DV victims, as well as providing the necessary knowledge about ways in which they can support victims in breaking away from the violence. Furthermore, it was agreed that nursing professionals need to promote the relevant social environment for protection of DV victims and also to empower the female population to fight against DV. It was also emphasized in the session that nurses should further strengthen their capacity to provide information and knowledge on DV to the entire society.<p />",
