abstract="The para-phenylenediamine (PPD) is an aromatic amine derivative of aniline, used since 1863 by women for cosmetic purposes such as hair dye and black henna adjuvant in several countries in Africa and the Middle East. The aim of our study was to describe the clinical, paraclinical and scalable for our patients and to compare them with literature data. This was a retrospective study of cases admitted to the ICU (2003-2010). Inclusion criteria were clinical, paraclinical, therapeutic and evolutionary. During the study period 24 patients were included from the region of Fez-Boulmane. The intoxication (PPD) represented 26% of all poisonings admitted during the same period. The average age was 23.6 + / - 11.6 years. There was a female with a sex ratio of 4.7. Voluntary intoxication was 82.6%, 8.6% accidental, and criminal in 4.3%. The syndrome of rhabdomyolysis characteristic of the intoxication was found in 60% of our patients, achieving 56.5% respiratory, cardiac involvement was present in 30% and 17.4% of patients presented renal . The therapeutic treatment was based on providing massive blood volume, urine alkalinization and the administration of steroids and diuretics. The use of a tracheostomy rescue was required in 7 patients. Three of our patients had received extra treatment failure. The evolution was fatal in 47.8% of cases. PPD thus represents the leading cause of death in our toxic environment. The PPD poisoning, is the leading cause of rhabdomyolysis in our toxic environment.
