abstract="A concern in many older communities is decay in neighborhoods dominated by rental properties. Multiple strategies are being adopted throughout the country to assist police departments and other policy makers to solve the crime problems of these areas. These strategies include the Crime Free Multi-Family Housing Program, zoning regulations, smart growth policies, landlord education programs, neighborhood organizations, drug and gang activity eviction legislation, administrative searches and inspections, and partnering between law enforcement and the rental industry. Legal and social issues need to be addressed, including recent court decisions on administrative regulations, concerns about affordable housing, and housing availability for persons with criminal convictions.<p />",
