abstract="Based on a developmental model of risk factors unique to children and adolescents, a summer camp program was evaluated with regard to its potential positive impact on at-risk participants who successfully completed the program, compared to at-risk participants who were nominated but did not participate in it. Basic features of the camp included mentoring, problem-solving activities, and the development of pro- social skills. Participants who attended the summer camp obtained significantly higher grades, in the year following camp, than did a non-camp comparison group. Additionally, the camp group had fewer absences, days tardy and number of detentions than the non-camp group. Methodological limitations and recommendations for future research are discussed.<p />",
