abstract="How does one mark the 300th anniversary of a city in decline? An installation at the Detroit Institute of Arts employed archetypal spaces of an elementary school and the experience of being a student to portray the evolution of the city. The engagement of place, memory, and voice created an environment where citizens of Detroit and its suburbs could reflect on the complex condition of the city they currently live in, or near, to imagine its future. To create this work, the author, an architect, partnered with choreographer, Peter Sparling, and video artist Terri Sarris.<p />",
