abstract="This article is about experiences of counselling women affected by domestic violence. In the process of recovery three important stages are identified which are crucial and may be revisited several times before the counselling is completed. The stages which are described in the article are confirmation, information, and affirmation. A specific part of the recovery process for the survivor of domestic violence is that of learning about likely patterns of behaviour and experiences of those affected. This type of knowledge is also helpful to practitioners in order to understand the perpetrator's and society's influence on survivors and the interplay between these forces.<p />",
