abstract="<p><br/>A statistical value-analysis of written documents can give objective, reliable and intelligible evidence to support clinical insights. The quantitative data offer detailed suggestions for patterning, and a sound basis for choosing between alternative interpretations. The method is illustrated by the analysis of Richard Wright's autobiography, &quot;Black Boy,&quot; compared with student autobiographies. The numerous value-categories (similar to Murray's needs) reveal quantitatively the strength of hostility and aggression, the lack of identification with Negroes, the absence of adult values, and the personal conflicts of the subject.
