abstract="71 heavy goods vehicle (HGV) surveys took place at 52 sites in 7 regions of the UK between 1989 and 1991. A random sample of 5456 HGVs were surveyed to provide the data for a review of the current methods used to estimate cumulative traffic loading for road pavement design. New average vehicle wear factors were proposed for each of 8 HGV classes but there were no improvements in accuracy when the data was disaggregated by region or by HGV flow. A new method for estimating cumulative traffic loading was proposed with marginal improvements in accuracy.<p />",
