abstract="The Institute of Vehicle Safety of the German Insurance Association (GDV) conducted a review of the possibilities and the limits to vehicle safety rating systems. The review included four workshops held from 1995 to 1998 that involved a number of international experts who examined existing systems to highlight key issues. Important criteria for the establishment of a high-quality safety rating system have been defined. This paper describes the findings, future developments and activities planned by this committee.<p />",
