abstract="This research, which originated during the design of the Central Artery/Tunnel project in Boston, attempted to formulate a 'custom fit' methodology for analyzing weaving operations under local traffic conditions. The estimation approach for Boston freeways is described, as well as for Logan Airport roadways. Model applications and results are detailed. Equations are developed that represent such a methodology, and can be used to predict average weaving area speeds at Boston freeways. They can also be used to analyze weaving and nonweaving speeds at Logan Airport access and egress roadways. It is noted that application of the 1985 Highway Capacity Manual in analyzing the airport weaves clearly underestimates both weaving and nonweaving speeds.<p />",
