abstract="The Illinois Department of Transportation is studying the effectiveness of strobe lights as supplemental warning devices at protected railroad grade crossings. Strobes installed at the seven locations have been evaluated through interviews with motorists and through observations by a field evaluation team. A traffic accident analysis and an economic analysis are also planned for these locations as the final phase of the study. This article covers the progress of the strobe study to date.<p />",
