abstract="For a first analysis of traffic engineering research in Australia, there are three useful listings of material. The first is ARRB's annual survey of road research in Australia which is published as Australian Road Research in Progress (ARRB 1982). This covers all Australian research. The second is one author's Source Book for Australian Roads (Lay 1981), which puts Australian traffic engineering into a total perspective in its Chapters 17 to 29. Finally, ARRB's own research is covered in its One Year Program which is published in each June's issue of the journal, Australian Road Research (e. g. Anon 1982a). In this article the authors discuss briefly all of national work and concentrate on ARRB-related studies.<p />",
