abstract="ITE Commiittee 4A-26 inquired into the status of street name signing practices in the United States and Canada. It investigated practices currently being used, as well as adherence to standards, techniques, and other pertinent information as can be obtained within the practical limitation of questionnaire sampling. A literature review was made, and responses to the questionnaire survey are described. It was found that a nationwide standard policy and practice for the design and installation of street name signs is not followed in either the U.S. or Canada. Agencies that follow 'standard practices' vary widely in their interpretation of the practices. Comments are made on these and other findings.<p />",
