abstract="Recent research is reported that considered two issues: do radar detectors encourage individual travel speeds sufficently above the mean traffic speed so as to significantly affect the probability and severity of accidents; are those who own such detectors involved in more crashes than the overall driving population. This article discusses attitudes and behaviors concerning speed, and radar detectors as indicators of high risk driving. It is concluded that while ownership of a radar detector does not, in itself, create unsafe drivers, the evidence suggests that those who have them are more likely to be involved in at-fault crashes than average drivers.<p />",
