abstract="As part of a study sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation, an effort was made to collect data on the interactions between queueing vehicles and presence detectors. The data were collected from eight traffic lanes in Albany, N.Y. and Rochester, N.Y. The observed vehicular flows contained a negligible number of trucks and buses. Interruptions of the flow movement by pedestrians and parking maneuvers were virtually nonexistent, and the vehicle approach speeds were less than 35 mph. The data provide a basis for calibrating and modifying existing simulation models to facilitate performance analysis of traffic-actuated signal controls. The purpose of this article is to describe the nature of the observed interactions and its implications in simulation analysis of such controls.<p />",
