abstract="This article chronicles the installation of a raised median in place of a two-way left-turn lane (TWLTL) on Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Traffic conflicts, traffic congestion, and lack of capacity prompted the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation and the Georgia Department of Transportation to install the raised median, dividing the three thru lanes in each direction. The advantages and disadvantages of both TWLTLs and raised medians are listed. Also, an operational analysis of land use and median type variables is detailed and reviewed. Results indicate that retrofitting the raised median barrier reduces accidents.<p />",
