abstract="This article discusses how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) affects the design of highway-related facilities now and in the future. The background to the ADA legislation is reviewed, and the requirements of ADA (applicable regulations; applicable standards; facilities affected; requirements for provision of curb ramps; requirements for handicapped parking spaces) are discussed. Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards and Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Gudelines (ADAAG) design standards (design of curb ramps; accessible parking spaces; bus stop pads; and ramp design) are noted. Comments are made on future ADA requirements and administrative requirements of the ADA, as well as the enforcement of the ADA.<p />",
