abstract="This article describes the use of road capacity analysis in investigating the effect of newly-installed bus stops along an already heavily-trafficked road in the city of Chandigarh, India. Traffic volume data was collected and analysed, showing greater traffic numbers on weekdays on the stretch of road with bus stops. A spot speed study was carried out and speed flow equations generated using linear regression analysis for all vehicle types. Free speed on a stretch of road without a bus stop was higher than in the presence of a bus stop. The recommendations from the conclusions of the study include that bus bays should be provided; existing traffic regulations should be enforced; the road should be widened; heavy vehicles should be prohibited during peak hours; and entry and exit points from the road should be closed at their current location.<p />",
