abstract="The role of PIARC and its activities are described. It was founded in 1909 and its headquarters are located in Paris. It has 95 government members world wide and 2000 individual members. Regional authorities and collective groups may also become members. It organises the World Road Congress every four years, organises other meetings, sets up technical committees, publishes documents and computer software, and co-operates with international bodies. Current PIARC projects and technical committees are listed.<p />",
