abstract="This article briefly describes the problems of bus transport in cities in india, where public demand for such transport far exceeds the available capacity of buses, which results in overcrowding, formation of large queues etc. Several solutions to this problem are proposed such as increasing bus fares by about 10 percent, attracting more off-peak use of buses, and the introduction of a split-shift system of crew employment. It is concluded that these solutions would improve the quality and increase the frequency and speed of the bus service.<p />",
