abstract="This article discusses the use of special traffic signalization being developed that is hoped to decrease the number of red light violations. Such violations tend to be the most disastrous despite typically being caused by the driver simply not being cognizant of the status of the light (in this case, its redness). This system, which illuminates the pavement in front of approaching drivers to alert them of the status of the light, is brought in distinction to other traffic violation abatement systems, such as photographic mechanisms that allow for automatic image capture of violating vehicles. However, photographic mechanisms are typically less successful due to the fact that drivers typically violate because of their failure to see the status of the light, rather than as a conscious act. Two studies in Anaheim, California and Houston, Texas are outlined that provide promising preliminary results for the system.<p />",
