abstract="This article briefly looks at the issue of driver distraction resulting from the usage of cell phones and other in-vehicle electronics while driving. As studies have examined the possible link between traffic accidents and cell phone use while driving, automakers are now offering advanced speech-based systems with the hope that driver distraction from in-vehicle electronic technology can be lessened. The article notes that there is currently no data supporting the position that telematics devices would ultimately be less distracting than the current handheld wireless technology.
